SHORT DOCUMENTARY FILM – (in production)
This short documentary film will tell the story of El Wali band, a group of Saharawi musicians who used their music as a form of resistance and a means of unifying their people during war and exile.
Viewers will be taken on a journey to learn about how the band came to be and their role in the quest of the indigenous Saharawis for freedom, self-determination, and the liberation of Western Sahara, Africa’s last colony. The documentary will follow El Wali from its first acts of resistance during the Moroccan and Mauritanian invasion of Western Sahara, through its years touring the world during the late 1970s and 1980s, when the band brought the Saharawi people’s struggle for liberation to international audiences, ending with a look at their influence on Saharawi resistance music today.
